Gifted & Talented

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year.  My name is Ellen Honeck and I am the Gifted and Talented Specialist at Trails West Elementary.  While I am new to the Cherry Creek School District, I have over 18 years in gifted education.  I have a PhD and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in gifted education from the University of Denver.   My background in gifted education has ranged from a classroom teacher, physical education and health teacher, school administrator, admissions director, Associate Director for the Institute for the Development of Gifted Education, and an adjunct professor at the University of Denver teaching courses in gifted education.  I have presented at state, national, and international organizations and am active in leadership with the National Association of Gifted Children.

I am excited to be part of the Trails West Community and look forward to getting to know all of your children.  I am in the buildings only part time, Tuesdays from 8:00-2:00pm, Wednesdays from 7:45-4:00, and Thursdays from 9:30-3:30pm.  While in the building I will be planning with classroom teachers and spending time in the GT cluster classrooms.  The support provided for students will look slightly different depending on the grade level and classroom.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email at or by phone at 720-886-8532.  Please be patient as it may take a little bit to get back with you as I am only in the building part time.  Please note that email is preferred.

Thank you!

 Upcoming Item

All students that are currently identified will need to have the ALP (Advanced Learning Plan) updated for this school year before November.  I will be gathering data from classroom teachers to assess previous goals and then sending information home about meeting times.  Please watch for additional information to come in the next several weeks.

I look forward to meeting you all soon!
